Basic Law of Saudi Arabia

The Basic Law of Saudi Arabia (alternative name: Basic System of Governance; Arabic: النظام الأساسي للحكم‎, Al Nizam Al Asasi lil Hukm) is a constitution-like charter divided into nine chapters, consisting of 83 articles.

About the Basic Law

• There is confusion among some people, who think a constitution takes the place of the Koran and the Sunna, which is not true. As you know, any Saudi who is familiar with the situation in Saudi Arabia cannot establish a constitution, a regulation, or a law that runs counter to the Islamic Shari'a.
